Twelfth Night mini analysis

In the " Twelfth Night"  there are many topsy-turvy in the realms of gender and social order . The main character viola disguised herself to Cesario . Viola who is disguised as Cesario starts working with duke Orsino who is having a hard time with his own love lady Olivia . Viola starts to have feeling for duke Orsino which makes it a confusing and a love triangle.  Viola is sent to be a messenger for the duke by sending a letter to lady Olivia. lady Olivia ends up falling for Cesario who is not a man but viola . viola said  word of love that made Olivia fall for her :" Make me a willow cabin at your gate and call upon my soul within the house write loyal cantons of contemned love and sing them loud [ .... ] you should pity me  " (255-263).  In social order lady Olivia is in love with someone who is in a lower social ladder then her , she is noble , wealthy and beautiful women but that doesn't stop her from falling in love with Cesario a mire messenger  and later with viola's twin brother Sebastian who he know nothing about and it was . She proffered to love a man with nothing instead of a man with wealth and that could give her all she wanted .Also the marriage of sir Toby and maria which in status they don't match .Maria is just a women with no money an status but she stilled married Sir Toby who was status but they don't know nothing about each other at all they don't love each other .
In the end the Sebastian and viola revealed their own identities , viola who in reality is cesario . Olivia marries the man she loves and also viola to ends with a happy marriage to the Duke . In this play everyone loved a parson not caring about wealth but just going on how they fill .

  1. You have some good sentences here, but they're in the E.R. and desperately medical attention.

  2. I liked how you conveyed that Olivia was stepping below her social order while trying to court Cesario. I also appreciated your perspective that Olivia was giving up the opportunity of marrying a rich man by chasing a servant (perceived by Olivia). Your conclusion tied up this idea perfectly; that wealth did not dictate love. I recommend that you provide some a citation to support this (also use the notes that prof. Flack gave on citations). I can easily detect what you are trying to convey, but the flow of your thoughts are not being presented effectively. In the future I recommend that you read your analysis out loud. You can really get a feel for the language and easily detect errors in your sentences.

  3. Good observation that Olivia was more concerned with marrying a man whose intellect and romanticism she could identify with, rather than marrying a man of wealth or stature. Try to avoid getting bogged down in plot summary. Focus only on the incidences you wish to analyze. Don't list plot summary unless you plan on tying it to your analysis that gender and social order are disrupted in the play. If you stop at plot summary, you leave it up to your audience to discern how the plot point you highlight helps support your thesis. Saul made a great suggestion when he said that you should try to read your papers out loud to yourself to catch sentence structure issues.
